The New England Patriots and New York Jets meet Sunday in week 7 NFL action from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. New York is coming off a bye week; the Jets last played the Falcons during a loss in London. As for the Pats, they fell in overtime to the Cowboys this past weekend. New York struggled out of the gate this year with three straight losses, falling 19-14 to the Panthers, 25-6 to the Patriots and 26-0 to the Broncos. After an OT win over the Titans 27-24, the Jets lost their London game to the Falcons 27-20 on October 10.
In the loss to Atlanta, New York was down 20-3 at halftime and couldn’t dig out of the hole. QB Zach Wilson put up 192 yards with one TD, and Michael Carter rushed for 38 yards and a score. Corey Davis added 45 yards from his four catches.
Over on the Patriots’ side, they stumbled early this season as well, falling to the Dolphins 17-16, the Saints 28-13 and the Bucs 19-17 in their first four games. After a 25-22 win over the Texans, New England lost again to the Cowboys 35-29 in overtime.
In the loss to Dallas, New England scored 15 fourth-quarter points but couldn’t hang on in the extra period. QB Mac Jones put up 229 yards with two TDs and a pick, and Damien Harris had 101 yards with a score rushing. Kendrick Bourne caught one 75-yard TD as well.
The Jets are 7-2-2 ATS in their last 11 in Week 7 and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 in October. New York is also 2-8 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games in Week 7 and 25-10 ATS versus a team with a losing record. New England is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 overall and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 as a favorite.
PICK: I’m going to stick with New England. You probably won’t find too many people taking the Jets this week until the line thickens up significantly. (I’d still be on the Pats into double-digits.) New York posted just 230 total yards in their last game, averaging 4.4 yards per play against a not-so-good Falcons team. There just aren’t many positives when it comes to the Jets these days.
As for New England, they’ve struggled as well. The Pats gave up 567 total yards to the Cowboys along with 32 first downs and 6.9 yards per play. That said, the Jets won’t pose anywhere near the offensive threat as Dallas, so the Patriots should be fine here.
