The New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks clash Sunday in week 5 NFL action from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Seattle last played the Lions, eking out a three-point victory to move to 2-2. As for the Saints, they’re 1-3 following their latest loss to the Vikings over the weekend. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.
Seattle’s season started out on a positive note as the team eked out a 17-16 win over the Broncos. Week two was a rough one for the Seahawks as they lost 27-7 to the 49ers. Seattle would get closer the next week against the Falcons but they still fell 27-23.
In last weekend’s matchup versus the Lions, the Seahawks were up 24-15 at halftime and had to hang on for a 48-45 win. QB Geno Smith posted 320 yards with two touchdowns, and Rashaad Penny added 17 carries for 151 yards and two scores.
Over on the Saints’ side, their year started out on a positive note as well with a 27-26 victory over the Falcons. New Orleans ended up falling 20-10 against the Buccaneers in game two, then the team followed that up with a 22-14 loss to the Panthers.
Back on Sunday against the Vikings, the Saints went into halftime with a 13-7 deficit. New Orleans got better from there but still lost 28-25. QB Andy Dalton posted 236 yards and a score, while Latavius Murray led the rush with 57 yards and a TD on 11 carries.
The Seahawks are 4-0 in their last four in October and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games versus a team with a losing home record. The over is 5-1 in the Seahawks’ last six versus the NFC.
Meanwhile, the Saints are 37-14 ATS in their last 51 in October and 2-5 ATS in their last seven on turf. New Orleans is 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Seahawks. This one’s something of a coin flip, though. Seattle had a great offensive showing last weekend, with 555 total yards, 8.8 yards per play, 27 first downs and a nice 9-of-12 run on third downs. Trouble is, the Seahawks committed 11 penalties and gave up 520 yards of offense in the close win.
As for the Saints, they didn’t do themselves any favors in last weekend’s loss with 10 penalties and two lost fumbles. It was a decent offensive output following a couple of down weeks, though. All things considered I think this will be a pretty tight game, and I think the Seahawks can get in there to cover.
