In this article we will formulate a NY Giants vs Detroit Lions prediction for this NFL Preseason game on Thursday, August 8th at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this preseason battle.
New York Giants Betting Preview
The New York Giants went 6-11 last season and they finished third in the NFC East. The Giants had a disappointing season all around and dealt with injuries to quarterback Daniel Jones. New York averaged 15.6 points per game, which was 30th in the NFL, but they did start Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito for 11 of their 17 games. The Giants will have a new running back this season, as they moved on from Barkley, so Devin Singletary will be the featured back. The New York defense was not good last season, allowing 23.9 points per game, which was 26th in the NFL. The Giants will look to improve all around during this preseason, as offense, offensive line, and defense were well below average in 2023.
New York went 1-2 in the 2023 preseason, which included a loss to the Lions by a score of 21-16 in their first game. New York did beat Carolina by a score of 21-19 in their second preseason game, before losing to the Jets by a score of 32-24 in the finale.
Detroit Lions Betting Preview
The Detroit Lions were one of the most improved teams last year and they were one half away from making it to the Super Bowl. Detroit went 12-5 in the regular season and they won the NFC North, before defeating the Rams by a score of 24-23 and the Buccaneers by a score of 31-23 in the playoffs. Detroit had a nice first half lead over the 49ers in the NFC Title game, but they ended up losing 34-31 to end their magical season. The Lions should be a very good team once again this season, as they return a lot of their production from 2023. The Lions scored 27.1 points per game (5th) and they allowed 23.2 points against per game (23rd) last year. Detroit does need to improve their defense, but if the offense is humming like it was last year, it doesn’t need to be great.
Detroit went 2-1 during the 2023 preseason, which began with a 21-16 victory over the Giants. The Lions dropped their second game against the Jaguars by a score of 25-7, before defeating Carolina by a score of 26-17 in their last game.

NY Giants vs Detroit Lions Prediction
These two teams had completed opposite results in the 2023 season, but they will both look to start the year off on the right foot with a strong performance here. The Lions are just hoping to keep everyone healthy, while finding some improvements on the defensive side of the football, but the Giants are looking for improvements in just about every part of their game. It is never easy to get great information regarding who will be playing in these games, but we know we will see plenty of backup quarterbacks. The Giants may give Daniel Jones a few snaps, but Drew Locke and Tommy DeVito will play the majority of the game. Detroit will almost certainly not play Goff in this first game, which means Nate Sudfeld and Hendon Hooker will carry the load. Hendon Hooker is coming off of an injury that caused him to miss last season, but he does have plenty of potential. I do think the Giants have the better options at the backup quarterback position, especially with DeVito getting plenty of snaps last year, so my NY Giants vs Detroit Lions prediction is for the Giants to win and cover.
