The Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints square off Friday in week 2 NFL preseason action from Lambeau Field. This will be the second preseason game for both teams. The Saints played the Texans over the weekend. In that one New Orleans fell by four. As for Green Bay, they’re coming off a matchup versus the 49ers, falling by seven points in that one. The Saints are coming off something of a disappointing season in 2021. New Orleans finished 9-8 overall, landing in second place in the NFC South. After a nice 5-2 start to the year, Saints QB Jameis Winston tore his ACL and things went downhill from there.

In Saturday’s matchup versus the Texans, the Saints were outscored 7-3 in the fourth quarter during a 17-13 loss. QB Ian Book put up 121 yards and a pick on 15-of-22 passing, and Dai’Jean Dixon led the receivers with three grabs for 33 yards.

Over on the Packers’ side, they had a nice regular season in 2021, ultimately finishing 13-4 and taking another NFC North Championship. Green Bay’s season came to a sudden halt in the Divisional Playoffs however, as the team took a tough 13-10 loss to the 49ers.

Green Bay already has one preseason game in the bag this year against the aforementioned 49ers. The Packers gave up 20 first-half points in that one and couldn’t come back in a 28-21 defeat. Quarterback Jordan Love managed 176 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss.

PICK: I’m likely going to try the Packers here. Probably not going near it, however; preseason games are pretty much coin-flips on most levels. In any case, Green Bay (Love in particular) certainly has some ball-control issues to clean up from last week with the three interceptions, but overall the offense showed some promise with 437 total yards and 19 first downs. Four different receivers had 42 yards or more, and seven different receivers had at least two catches. There’s plenty to work with on the roster if the team can execute in this one.
