New England had some trouble with the Giants during their first exhibition game of the year, but still hung around in a 23-21 defeat. QB Bailey Zappe finished with 19-of-32 passing for 205 yards, one TD and one pick. Kristian Wilkerson added eight catches for 99 yards to lead the receivers.

In game two versus the Panthers, the Patriots’ fortunes changed. New England posted 10 points in both the second and fourth quarters in a 20-10 win. Zappe bagged 173 yards and an interception in the victory, while Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught five balls for 71 yards.

Over on the Las Vegas side, they got an extra preseason outing in this year at the Hall of Fame Game, a 27-11 win over the Jaguars. Game two was a 26-20 win over the Vikings. Las Vegas’ Brittain Brown rushed 14 times for 54 yards and a score, while DJ Turner caught three balls for 58 yards and a TD.

In Saturday’s game versus the Dolphins, the Raiders scored in every quarter along the way to a 15-13 win. Jarrett Stidham went 7-of-10 for 80 yards, Brittain Brown rushed nine times for 70 yards, and Jesper Horsted led the receivers with 53 yards on three catches.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Las Vegas. The Raiders looked a little out of sorts at times during the Dolphins game, but the team ultimately came up with 289 total yards and 5.1 yards per play. The scoreboard was tense, but the penalties (two), turnovers (zero) and time of possession (33:09) were all pretty solid.

As for New England, they’re coming off a nice statistical game with 375 total yards versus the Panthers, but the team was just 2-of-12 on third-down plays and committed 12 penalties for 104 yards. The Patriots will likely keep their foot off the proverbial gas pedal here and focus on fixing mistakes.
