The New England Patriots and New York Giants clash Thursday night in NFL preseason action from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The Giants are coming off a tough 4-13 season in 2021, finishing fourth in the NFC East. As for the Patriots, they went 10-7 and ultimately fell in the Wild Card Playoffs. The Giants couldn’t improve on their 6-10 season from 2020 last year, going 4-13 and hitting the basement of the NFC East standings. New York posted just one division win (November 28 versus Philly). It was the second and final season under head coach Joe Judge.

2022 will mark a new chapter for the Giants. This will be their first season under the combination of head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen. The team cleaned house pretty much across the board, bringing in new on-field talent like first-round picks Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal.

Over on the Patriots’ side, they had a more successful season last year, but it still ended in disappointment. New England ended up with a 10-7 record overall and a second-place division finish, but ultimately fell to the rival Bills 47-17 in the Wild Card Playoffs.

This year marks the 23rd season under head coach Bill Belichick as the Patriots try to make the playoffs for the 19th time in the last 22 years. New England has a few new faces on the roster this year, including CB JC Jackson and draft picks Cole Strange and Tyquan Thornton.

The Giants are 0-6 ATS in their last six overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five road games. The under is 21-6-1 in New York’s last 28 overall.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five at home. New England is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to stay with the Patriots. Preseason games are always a dice-roll, but given the way New England tends to play at Gillette they’ve certainly got a distinct home-field advantage. The Patriots have also had less turnover with the coaching staff and on the roster, so it should be a smoother transition into the new season in Foxboro. As for New York, they’re facing an uphill battle this season but there should be brighter days on the horizon.
