Preseason: Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets 8/12/22 NFL Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets clash Friday night in NFL week 1 preseason action at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly. The New York Jets are 4-2-1 in their last 7 preseason games. The Philadelphia Eagles are 0-4-1 in their last 5 preseason games.

The New York Jets are hoping quarterback Zach Wilson can make that jump in his second year. Of course, wide receivers emerging will be key for the Jets success and guys such as Elijah Moore, Braxton Berrios, Keelan Cole and Denzel Mims will be fighting for reps. The Jets have a backup quarterback battle between Mike White and James Morgan. The Jets tight end job is also up for grabs, as Tyler Kroft has a chance to steal plays from Chris Herndon. Defensively, the Jets have to figure out who starts on the line next to Quinnen Williams and Carl Lawson. Also, what in the world does C.J. Mosley look like after playing just 18 games since 2019? Time will tell. 

The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping for a more consistent season from quarterback Jalen Hurts, as they’re expected to have a more pass happy offense. The Eagles are fine in the trenches for the most part, but the retirement of Brandon Brooks leaves a hole at right guard. Sua Opeta, Jack Discoll and Isaac Seumalo are expected to compete for playing time. It will be fun to see the return of defensive end Brandon Graham, who tore his Achilles tendon early last season. K’Von Wallace and Jalen Reagor are two players on the Eagles roster bubble who are worth keeping an eye on throughout camp. Davion Taylor, Kyzir White and Nakobe Dean will be fighting for that weak side linebacker job.

The Jets are 6-20-1 ATS in their last 27 games on grass and 16-35-3 ATS in their last 54 road games. The Eagles are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The over is 10-4 in Jets last 14 games overall. The over is 5-0 in Eagles last 5 home games. The Jets are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 meetings.

We’re getting free points with the Eagles at home, and it doesn’t make sense to me. The Eagles should not only play Hurts a decent amount of time this preseason to get him comfortable in a more pass happy offense, but they have a former respectable starter in Gardner Minshew. Sorry, but Joe Flacco is over the hill at 37 years old and Mike White has no experience. The Eagles have decent quarterback depth, and that’s good enough for me when capping NFL preseason. I’ll gladly take the points here with the home team.
