The Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions clash Sunday in week 17 NFL action from Lumen Field in Seattle. Detroit is sitting at 2-12-1 so far this year. The Lions lost to the Falcons in their last game. As for the Seahawks, they’re 5-10 on the season and fresh off a loss to the Bears. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.
Detroit started the season on an eight-game losing streak before managing a tie with the Steelers. The Lions have since gone 2-4, falling to the Browns, Bears, Broncos and Falcons during that stretch.
In the Falcons game, the Lions managed a 13-13 tie heading into the fourth quarter. Detroit could only muster a field goal from there in a 20-16 loss. QB Tim Boyle put up 187 yards with a TD and an INT; Jamaal Williams added 77 rush yards.
Over on the Seahawks’ side, they were able to go just 3-6 over their first nine games, with wins over the Colts, 49ers and Jaguars. Seattle is 2-4 since then. The losses have come to Washington, Arizona, Los Angeles and Chicago.
In the Bears matchup Sunday, the Seahawks had a 24-14 edge after three quarters. Seattle gave up 11 unanswered points from there in a 25-24 loss. QB Russell Wilson finished on 181 yards and two scores. Rashaad Penny rushed for 135 yards and a TD.
Detroit is 4-0 ATS in their last four in Week 17 and 4-0 ATS in the last four versus the NFC. Detroit is 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks are 4-9 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 in January. Seattle is 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a favorite.
PICK: I’m going to take Detroit here. The Seahawks had the Bears in a dominant position late in their last game, but couldn’t get the job done. Seattle was decent on offense (331 total yards; 6.2 yards per play). However, the Seahawks had a tepid 3-of-10 on third-down tries and just 18 first downs to Chicago’s 26.
As for Detroit, they’ve got an ugly-looking record this year but have actually played things pretty tight over the last seven games or so. I still think the Seahawks will win, but I think there’s enough room for the Lions to cover.
