The Flyers and Hurricanes meet in Carolina as Philly is coming off a tough loss on the road in Montreal while the Canes were idle on a very busy Saturday evening on the ice.
The Flyers had a very tough season last year as they completely fell short of expectation and with the way things are going so far this season it looks as though change could be imminent as they’re off to an 0-2 start and will have a tough matchup here against the Canes. Philadelphia has a ton of talent in the offensive zone but hasn’t been able to put it together yet and without a solid blue line and crease play to back them up the Flyers have been suspect at best through the first two contests. Steve Mason gets the nod in goal for the Flyers in this one and he will have to be on his game if he wants to go toe to toe with Cam Ward who is looking for a bounce back season for Carolina.

The Hurricanes are one of those cusp teams who always seem to have talent but don’t always piece it together and perform as well as expected, case and point as last year’s squad failed to make the postseason after having such high expectations. The Hurricanes have a ton of talent up front with the likes of Jeff Skinner, and Jordan and Eric Staal but they also have a solid blue line led by Justin Faulk and if they can get more out of their top guys on a consistent basis this season than the Canes could very well launch themselves into the conversation of the Eastern Conference elite. Playing at home against a weathered Flyers team coming off a loss last night I think is an excellent spot for the Hurricanes and I think they make a statement to rest of the league that they’re going to be a team to mess with all season long.
