It was an embarrassing defeat for the New York Rangers and one that didn't make a lot of sense after a strong performance on the road against the Los Angeles Kings a night prior. After a big 3-1 victory got them their first win of the season the Rangers came out and absolutely looked foolish against a San Jose Sharks club that skated circles around them. New York looked unprepared, uninterested, and outmatched in every facet of the game as they fell by a final score of 9-2. Adjustments will be needed while learning Alain Vigneault's system but Tuesday night's effort just isn't acceptable under any circumstances. Expect a much better effort on Thursday in Anaheim against the Ducks but it might not matter because this club just isn't very good right now. It would be surprising to see Rick Nash on the ice in this way as the big power forward left the game after taking a head shot from Brad Stuart.
After a terrible showing on opening night the Ducks have rebounded with a pair of one goal wins over the Minnesota Wild and the Winnipeg Jets. On Sunday they held the Jets to just 17 shots on goal and got goals from Mathieu Perreault, Andrew Cogliano, and a game winner from Corey Perry in the 3-2 win. Viktor Fasth had to make just 15 saves to pick up the win. This is a good hockey club and the addition of Perreault gives them a talented young player up front. With Perry and Ryan Getzlaf in their prime this team has what it takes to work their way through the Western Conference this year.
