The Chicago Blackhawks look to distance themselves in the Central division as they clash with the Avalanche at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Blackhawks are on a tear at the moment as they have emerged as Stanley Cup favourites yet again as they have climbed to the top of the NHL standings with a 14-3-4 mark through their first 21 contests and now head into Colorado to take on the suddenly slumping Avalanche. Chicago has all the tools to repeat as champs as they have the majority of their roster still intact from last season and a number of key pieces from their championship squad four years ago as well. Corey Crawford has been solid between the pipes and the talent spills over from there as the Hawks are among the game’s best and will look to use this platform to prove it once again. The Blackhawks are 5-2-1 on the road and will look to improve that mark against a Colorado team who is a very respectable 8-3 at home and will be looking to get back on track with a huge victory here.

The Avalanche were the talk of the league two weeks ago as they raced out to a very impressive start and while they’re still a very solid team and should be a playoff contender come April I think reality is starting to set in a little bit for them. Colorado is still a very young team that needs time to develop and mesh and there will definitely be some growing pains along the way as they have found out recently in the midst of a three game slide. Colorado has slipped to fourth place in the Central division but are still very much within arm’s reach of first as the logjam is very tight at the moment. However, this isn’t a great spot for the Avs as they host a Blackhawks team who is playing very well right now and is coming off a huge win over the San Jose Sharks and I think they continue their success on the road in Denver tonight.
