It wasn't the prettiest win for the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night but championship caliber teams always seem to find ways to win hockey games. The Bruins traveled to Calgary to take on the Flames and didn't play their best game of the season, but they still walked out of the Scotiabank Saddledome with two points. Calgary led 1-0 after two periods of play before the Bruins turned it on in the third period. Calgary had outshot Boston 22-9 through the first two periods and one can only imagine what was said between periods in the Bruins locker room. Whatever it was it led to Boston coming out and outshooting the Flames 15-5 over the final 20 minutes. David Krejci and Reilly Smith scored for Boston who rallied for the 2-1 victory. The win wouldn't have been possible without Tuukka Rask keeping the Bruins in the game over the first 40 minutes. Rask finished with 26 saves and picked up his 16th win of the season. Now they'll try and follow it up with a better performance on the road against the Edmonton Oilers.
The young Oilers have been playing better hockey this month but they are still extremely up and down right now. The Oilers have alternated wins and losses every game this month, their record now sitting at 11-18-3. Tuesday night the Oilers hosted the Carolina Hurricanes and had to hold on for dear life to get the win. Edmonton led 3-1 after one period of play on goals by Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but they weren't able to hold on. Jesse Joensu's goal early in the second made it 4-1 before the Oilers would allow three straight goals to send the game into overtime. Jordan Eberle would assure the Oilers of two points with the overtime winner and his 11th goal of the season to lift Edmonton by Carolina by a score of 5-4. This isn't going to be an easy game for the Oilers and with the way they've played of late they should be due for a loss here. Boston will look to get off to a better start after the way they came out the first two periods in Calgary.
