Don't look now but the Detroit Red Wings might actually be in danger of missing the post season this year. That seems like something that's not believable given how consistent this organization has been, but the loss of some players along with a lot of injuries this year has really started to take its toll on the Red Wings. Luckily for the Red Wings there are loser points in this league and that's important because Detroit has already accumulated nine of them to start the year. The Red Wings are in the midst of a six game losing streak with four of those losses coming to the two teams that play in Florida. The Red Wings have had a really rough time on home ice this season and it doesn't matter who their opponent is. The Red Wings are just 5-9-6 on the year at Joe Louis Arena and if they hadn't made the transition to the Eastern Conference this year they would already be in serious trouble. It's impossible to say that their game on Thursday against the Calgary Flames is a game that they should win because of how bad they've been on home ice and the way they've played during this losing streak. Calgary comes into this game 1-2 on their East Coast road trip with match ups against the Red Wings and Penguins still to play. After blowing a two goal lead against the New York Rangers on Sunday night the Flames were simply out muscled by the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden on Tuesday night. Calgary was facing a tired Bruins club that returned home from a lengthy road trip and were unable to take advantage of it. Calgary managed just 21 shots in the game and couldn't get anything by Tuukka Rask. While goaltending had been the biggest issue for this club to start the season lately it has been the lack of goals that has really hurt them. The Flames have scored three goals just once in the last seve games and that's simply not good enough, especially when you don't trust the guy you have between the pipes. If the Flames can come out hard in this one and find a way to get a lead there's a good chance they can take this hockey game. Both of these teams are impossible to trust at this point and this is one to stay away from with a full slate of games on the schedule. I'll take Detroit to get the win but wouldn't touch it at this price.
