The fifth and final meeting between the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars will take place Monday night at the American Airlines Center. Colorado leads the season series with a three games to one advantage.
Colorado is looking to rebound after a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, as rookie Tyler Johnson stole the show with three goals in the victory. The goaltending for the Avalanche has been real inconsistent as of late with a combined 16 goals allowed in the last four games. Sami Aittokallio saw his first action of the season against Tampa Bay and was pulled after two periods when he allowed three goals on only 18 shots.

Dallas is on a three-game winning streak and a victory on Monday could extend that streak to a season high. It’s taken advantage of a home stretch and has beaten some good competition in Minnesota, Toronto and Pittsburgh. The Stars continue to get offensive production from a bunch of guys, but it’s been goalie Kari Lehtonen who has really taken his game to another level recently. The ninth-year pro has only allowed one goal in his last three starts. Add that to an offense that averages nearly three goals per game and Dallas will be a tough team to beat moving forward.
Colorado is the better team but it’s hard to trust a team that has allowed so many goals as of late. Dallas has been playing better hockey over the last week and is 4-1 in its last five home games. The home team is also 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams.
In pretty much a toss-up, go ahead and pick the hotter team that has home ice advantage.
