The Kings look to regroup on home ice as they host the Philadelphia Flyers at the Staples Centre on Saturday.
The Flyers head into Saturday’s contest with the Kings sitting in fifth place in a logjammed Metro division but are just a point back of the Hurricanes for the third divisional playoff berth and seem to have turned a corner on their season. Philly has been one of if not the biggest disappointments in the league over the past year and a half as they have a roster capable of winning the Eastern Conference yet they can’t seem to find any consistency in their game. Claude Giroux leads a forward group that includes Wayne Simmonds, Scott Hartnell, Jakub Voracek, and Brayden Schenn and the blue line while aging is still decent but yet they can’t separate themselves from some of the game’s also rans. The Flyers will take a stab at beating the Kings here but will be going up against some familiar faces who will look to make a statement to Philly management with a strong outing.

The Kings have dropped two games in a row yet remain in third place in the Pacific due to Vancouver’s ongoing collapse but can make amends with a win here today against the Flyers. Since playing in their outdoor game against the Ducks, Los Angeles seems to be playing a bit sluggish and while I still consider them a Cup contender in the West they need to get their swagger back in a hurry if they want to land a favourable playoff spot. Jonathan Quick is likely to get the call here as he goes up against Steve Mason but all eyes in this one will be on Jeff Carter and Mike Richards who face off against their former team who deemed them expendable a few years ago resulting in two separate trades that eventually led to their reunion. I expect a solid effort from LA here and while the Flyers are a better team than the line indicates I don’t see that here as the Kings should take this one comfortably.
