The Chicago Blackhawks tote the NHL’s top scoring offense to the Staples Center to take on the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.
The Blackhawks are in the midst of a seven game road trip, one of the longest of the season. After the first three games of the trip, the Hawks have only tallied a single win. On Saturday, Chicago dropped a game to the Sharks in overtime after giving up a shorthanded goal during the 1-1 regulation tie. Chicago gave up 39 shots on goal in the loss to San Jose, but goaltender Corey Crawford had a strong performance with 39 saves. With four games remaining on the road trip, Chicago moves to 15-6-7 on the road this season.

Recently, the Los Angeles Kings have struggled mightily. The Kings are just 1-7-1 in the last nine games, and suddenly the Kings are just three points away from the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Like Chicago, the Kings dropped a game on Saturday. A 2-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers marked the team’s third consecutive loss. The Kings are having major issues scoring the puck, putting only three goals on the board over the last six games.
The Hawks and Kings have squared off twice this season, with Chicago winning each of the first two games at the United Center. This game pins the best offense in the league, in terms of goals per game, against the best defense in the league, with regard to goals against, which is a fact that has been represented in the previous two games between Chicago and Los Angeles this season. The home team is 6-1 in the last seven games between these two teams. I think both teams will come out hungry in this game, but Los Angeles is fighting for a spot in the playoffs at this point. In a very difficult game to confidently take a side, I lean to the home team here.
