The San Jose Sharks welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to the SAP Center on Monday night.
The Philadelphia Flyers finish up a three game road trip with the Sharks and a victory would make the trip a success overall, especially considering the competition. The Flyers began with a 5-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, but then bounced back in the second game of the trip with a 2-0 shutout against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples. The Flyers are currently teetering on the edge of playoff contention, and with seven teams within two points in the Eastern Conference standings it will undoubtedly be interesting to watch the playoff push unfold.

The San Jose Sharks enter Monday’s game coming off of a home win against the Chicago Blackhawks. Joe Pavelski scored a shorthanded goal to put the Sharks up one in the second period, but the Hawks answered right back. The game would eventually go to a shootout, and the Sharks would walk away victorious thanks to a nasty move by Joe Thornton to beat Corey Crawford in the shootout. The win over Chicago snapped a three game losing streak for San Jose, and the Sharks are now 7-3 over the last ten.
This game is the first time that the Flyers and Sharks have met this season, but will be the first game between the two during the month of February. Historically, this matchup has been extremely lopsided with the Sharks going 11-0-2 in the last 13 meetings. Over the last seven of those games that were played in San Jose, the Flyers are 0-6-1. While the slow start hampered Philly’s chances at locking up a top spot in the East, I think were seeing what the Flyers really are, which is just an average team this season. With this being the last game of a road trip on the opposite side of the country, I think the Flyers stumble. The money line here offers no value, so I’ll take a shot with the puck line with the Sharks at the tank.
