The Senators look to complete the Florida Sweep on Tuesday a night after upending the Lightning in the shootout as they take on the Panthers on Tuesday.
The Senators look to keep their faint playoff hopes alive as they head into Sunrise to take on the Panthers on Tuesday night after their spirits were lifted last night with a victory over Tampa Bay. The Sens have struggled mightily since returning from the Olympic break and have just two victories in their last 10 contests which has basically sealed their fate of missing the playoffs as they sit nine points back of Toronto head into tonight’s game. Ottawa is a team that many people had high expectations of heading into the season but with the loss of Daniel Alfredsson I think the recovery time of that took a lot longer than anticipated and as such the Sens have struggled. They get a shot at redemption tonight against the Panthers who will be missing out on the postseason once again and will have a pretty favourable draft pick if things stay the way they are.

The Panthers have had a tough go this season and have continued their freefall back to irrelevance after claiming the Southeast division title three seasons ago. Florida was ousted in the first round that year by the eventual Eastern Conference champions from New Jersey and since then they haven’t looked like the same team at all and have to make a ton of moves off the ice in order to regain that sense of confidence. The Cats did make a move for Roberto Luongo which shores up their goaltending for the foreseeable future but they certainly need to add some pieces to their young core as they don’t have the talent level right now that most other teams have in their division. Florida is playing without much urgency at the moment which can make them a dangerous team and while it is almost inevitable that Ottawa will reach that point very soon I still classify them as a desperate team looking to make a charge and for that reason I give them the edge in this spot.
