The Penguins look to shake off a disappointing result at home against the Kings last night as they head to the road to take on the Blue Jackets.
The Penguins have been in the running as one of the game’s best teams all season long but something seems to be awry with the Eastern Conference powers at the moment as they don’t seem to have the same zip we are used to seeing. The Pens are playing their worst hockey of the season of late as they have lost three games in a row and six of their last 10 which has basically sealed their fate as the two seed in the conference thanks to a crazy run at the moment from the Boston Bruins. Pittsburgh dropped a hard fought battle to a very good Los Angeles Kings team last night but the team has been publicly critical of their play recently saying they don’t want it as much as their opponents and have been coasting since the Olympic break. The Pens look to rebound tonight as they head into Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets.

Columbus fought off an early season slump and are now right in the mix in the Eastern Conference playoff race, currently sitting in seventh place but are in a logjam with the Red Wings, Maple Leafs, and Capitals. The Blue Jackets made some moves in the offseason that indicated they were ready to take the next step but after shipping Marian Gaborik out at the trade deadline it looked as though they were giving up on this season and were looking towards building for the future. However, the return of Sergei Bobrovsky and some inspired play since Sochi has the Jackets in a good position heading towards the final stretch of the season and will be giving their all heading into the final 10 games of the regular season. The Blue Jackets are the more desperate team and could really use a win here to send a message to the rest of the Eastern Conference and while I love getting the Penguins in any circumstance at plus money I think the home side is the play here.
