The Senators look to shake off an opening night loss to the Predators while Tampa looks to stay undefeated after a win against the Panthers.
The Senators have been a team in transition for what seems like the last five seasons but they have always seemed to levy expectations and outperform themselves, however last year we saw what many thought was the real level of competition from them. Ottawa now has to move on from long time forward Jason Spezza who was sent to the Dallas Stars and that rebranding was accompanied by naming Erik Karlsson as the team’s new captain, a role he is relishing and should do very well in. The Sens lost their season opener to the Predators in what was a competitive game until late in the third period and with their second straight game on the road to open things up you can bet that Ottawa would love to even their record in this one. Robin Lehner will get the call in goal as the Sens try to decipher who their starting net minder will be and against a high octane Tampa Bay attack Lehner will have to be on point if he wants to secure the two points.

The Lightning have been pegged by many as a dark horse team to do some damage in the Eastern Conference this season and with a healthy Steven Stamkos who can blame them? Tampa Bay is a complete team that has a balance of youth and experience and can score in all three facets of the game and have strong goaltending which makes them a candidate to snag a victory on any night of the week. Tampa struggled to find their groove a bit in their season opener against the Panthers but prevailed in overtime thanks to a snipe from Victor Hedman but against a Senators team who struggled a bit in the defensive zone against Nashville the Bolts’ offense should have an easier time moving the puck. This is a tough game to call as the Senators always seem to find a way to win games like these but that was my thought process against Nashville and that back fired. Lehner will be looking to steal the job from Craig Anderson so I expect he will play well but I just don’t see enough in the tank from the Sens and as such I will take Tampa Bay in regulation.
