The New York Islanders and the New York Rangers meet in NHL action from Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
The New York Islanders will look to build off of a 4-0 win over the New York Rangers in their last outing to start the season on a high note.
Brock Nelson opened the scoring for the Isles just 2:33 into the game before Anders Lee doubled the lead for the Isles just 1:19 later. Mathew Barzal pushed the lead to 3-0 with 6:29 to go in the opening period, and the lead would hold up all the way through the rest of the first period and all of the 2nd and most of the 3rd before Jordan Eberle put the cherry on top of it all with a goal with just over five minutes to go in the game. The Rangers would go down without much of a fight in the 3rd, mustering just 3 shots on goal in the final frame.
Semyon Varlamov got the win after stopping all 24 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season for the Islanders while Igor Shesterkin took the loss after allowing all four goals on 33 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Islanders are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and 46-22 in their last 68 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. The Rangers are 0-5 in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog. The Islanders are 15-6 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams and 10-3 in the last 13 meetigns between these two teams in New York.
It’s always hard in professional leagues to beat the same team twice in a back-to-back, but the Islanders just seem to have the Rangers number as it’s carried over into this season as well. I just think that the Islanders are in the Rangers’ heads and as long as we keep getting these kinds of prices on them, I’ll keep siding with the Islanders in this spot.
