The Arizona Coyotes and the Vegas Golden Knights meet in NHL action from T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday night.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to bounce back and salvage a split of the back-to-back after dropping the first half by a final score of 4-2 last time out. Tyler Pitlick opened the scoring for the ‘Yotes with the short-handed goal just over eight minutes into the game and the lead held until Nick Schmaltz doubled Arizona’s lead just before the midway point of the 2nd period. Max Pacioretty made it 2-1 with just under three minutes to go in the 2nd and Reilly Smith would tie things up at two just over four minutes into the 3rd. Chanlder Stevenson was given credit for the 3rd goal despite not having a stick but it still counts just 4:11 later and Reilly Smith slammed the door shut with an insurance marker with :12 to go to give the Golden Knights the W. Robin Lehner got the win to improve to 2-0 after stopping 30 of 32 shots for Vegas in the winning effort while Darcy Kuemper took the loss, falling to 0-1-1 after allowing 3 goals on 27 shots in the defeat.
Arizona is 7-20 in their last 27 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 17-6-3 in their last 26 Wednesday games. Vegas is 25-10 in their last 35 home games and 26-10 in their last 36 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. The home team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I get the allure of a high-scoring game in the NHL nowadays, but the fact here is that you have two teams that are pretty good at playing in low-scoring games dating back to last year and in Arizona’s case, by their own volition and not being able to score. I just think this game plays out a bit differently than the first matchup and that an under comes in here, so I’ll back the under as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side in a value pick and I have that available as a premium play that you can find here.
