The Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators meet in NHL action from the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to bounce back after a 3-2 loss to the Senators in their last matchup on Thursday. Jeff Petry and Tyler Toffoli share the team-high with 13 points, with Petry posting 5 goals and 8 assists and Toffoli logging a team-high 9 goals. Nick Suzuki has 11 points with 3 goals and 8 assists and Jonathan Drouin and Josh Anderson each have 9 points with Drouin also posting 8 helpers and Anderson tallying 7 goals. Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Tatar, Shea Weber and Jesperi Kotkaniemi each have 7 points with Gallagher logging 5 goals while Weber has 5 assists, Kotkaniemi has 6 assists and Tatar has 3 goals and 4 assists this season. Carey Price has 4 wins for the Habs this season, logging a 2.81 GAA while Jake Allen has won 3 of his 4 starts with a 2.02 GAA this season.
The Ottawa Senators will try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season after their victory over Montreal last time out. Thomas Chabot and Brady Tkachuk each have 7 points coming on 3 goals and 4 assists while Josh Norris, Drake Batherson and Tim Stutzle each have 6 points with Norris logging 4 assists, Batherson tallying 4 goals and Batherson posting a team-high 5 assists. Nikita Zaitsev, Connor Brown and Austin Watson each have 5 points with Zaitsev logging 5 assists while Brown has 4 assists and Watson’s posted 3 goals and 2 assists this season. Matt Murray has logged both of Ottawa’s wins this season, posting a 4.40 GAA while Marcus Hogberg’s gone winless in 5 appearances with a 4.54 GAA.
Montreal is 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 5-2 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games as a favorite. Ottawa is 16-43 in their last 59 games overall and 17-42 in their last 59 games following a win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Montreal is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams and 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between the two teams in Ottawa.
I get that this is a lot of plus money to leave on the table with Ottawa considering they just beat Montreal not long ago. However, The Canadiens are still one of the hottest teams in the league through the first few weeks of the season, and a stumble was bound to happen at some point, it was just magnified because it snapped Ottawa’s losing streak which also had to end eventually. Either way, I don’t think that Montreal drops back-to-back games against Ottawa, so I’ll back the Habs on the puck line to try to shave down this hefty ML price.
