The Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks meet in NHL action from Rogers Arena on Monday night.
The Calgary Flames will look to bounce back from a frustrating 3-1 loss to Vancouver last time out. Johnny Gaudreau leads the Flames in scoring with 15 points including a team-high 8 goals with 7 assists while Elias Lindholm has 14 points with a team-high 10 assists and 4 goals this season. Sean Monahan’s got 11 points with 2 goals and 9 assists while Matthew Tkachuk’s got 10 points with 5 goals and 5 helpers this year. Jacob Markstrom’s picked up the slack in goal for the Flames, grabbing 7 wins with a 2.33 GAA and a pair of shutouts in 12 appearances this season.
The Vancouver Canucks will try to grab back-to-back wins after their victory over the Flames last time out. Quinn Hughes leads the Canucks in scoring with 18 points including a team-high 16 assists while Brock Boeser has 16 points with a team-high 10 goals and 6 assists. J.T. Miller has 13 points with 3 goals and 10 assists while Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson each have 12 points with Horvat logging 6 goals with 6 assists and Pettersson registering 5 goals and 7 assists. Thatcher Demko and Braden Holtby have shared the work in goal for Vancouver, with Demko grabbing 4 wins with a 3.46 GAA while Holtby has 2 wins with a 3.75 GAA.
Calgary is 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 13-5 in their last 18 games as a favorite while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a road favorite. Vancouver is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog. Calgary is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The plus money with a home dog is usually worth a look, but my problem here is that Vancouver got the win last time out, but that doesn’t change the fact that a lot needs to be fixed within the Canucks’ lineup, mostly figuring out what’s wrong in net. Thatcher Demko has to be better and Braden Holtby shouldn’t be struggling like this. Calgary is playing better hockey over the longer-term lately, so I’ll lay the juice with the Flames on the road here.
