The New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet in game seven of their Stanley Cup semi-final series in NHL action from the Amalie Arena on Friday night.

The New York Islanders will look to take the series on the road, forcing a game seven and avoiding elimination last time out with a 3-2 OT win over the Lightning last time out.

Brayden Point gave the Lightning the lead with just under four minutes to go in the opening period and Anthony Cirelli doubled the advantage with just under eight minutes to go in the second period. The Islanders got on the board just 1:46 later. Scott Mayfield evened the game at two for the Isles just past the midway point of the 3rd period. Neither side found a winner in regulation, so it was off to OT where Anthony Beauvillier wrapped things up quick with the winner for New York just 1:08 into the extra period.

Semyon Varlamov got the win between the pipes for the Islanders after allowing two goals on 24 shots faced in the victory while Andrei Vasilevskiy took the loss for Tampa Bay after giving up three goals on 28 shots faced in the defeat.

New York is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall and 9-3 in their last 12 games playing on 1 days rest while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a road underdog. Tampa Bay is 47-19 in their last 66 home games and 91-43 in their last 134 games overall while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 Friday games. The under is 4-1-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

I get the case that could be made for the Islanders as they’ve battled hard in this series and Barry Trotz has guys playing playoff-style hockey 24/7. However, the last time we were in Tampa, the Lightning put 8 past the Islanders and you have to think with both teams’ seasons on the line, and a raucous Tampa Bay crowd, that it gives the edge to the Lightning here. It’s a bit of a steep price, but the Lightning have been in this spot before and are experienced in this role. Give me Tampa Bay in this one.
