The San Jose Sharks and the Montreal Canadiens meet in NHL action from the Bell Centre on Tuesday night.

The San Jose Sharks will look to build on their first win of the season coming in the form of a 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets in their last game. Winnipeg opened the scoring just 4:20 into the game before doubling their lead 1:09 into the second short-handed. Andrew Cogliano got San Jose on the board with a shorty of his own just 2:29 later before Jasper Weatherby tied the game at two with just under seven minutes to go. Tomas Hertl gave San Jose their first lead 3:25 into the 3rd and Rudolfs Blacers scored just 1:37 after that to make it a 4-2 game for the Sharks. Winnipeg cut the deficit in half with 6:32 to go, but that’s as close as the Sharks let them get as the Sharks held on for the win to start the year. Adin Hill got the win after stopping 30 of 33 shots faced in the winning effort.

The Montreal Canadiens will be out to get their first win of the season after falling to 0-3 with a 3-1 loss to the Rangers in their last game. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes but New York would push in front just a second before the halfway point of the game in the second period. That lead held until the 9:24 mark of the 3rd where Jonathan Drouin got Montreal on the board, but New York responded in kind just :24 later to re-take the lead for good as they’d pot an empty-netter with ten seconds to go to secure the W and send Montreal back empty-handed again. Jake Allen took the loss to fall to 0-2 after giving up 2 goals on 23 shots faced in the defeat.

San Jose is 4-14 in their last 18 games overall and 0-6 in their last 6 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 Tuesday games. Montreal is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 15-7 in their last 22 games against the Pacific division while the under is 3-0-2 in their last 5 games overall.

I’m not running to the window to back either of these teams, but if forced to pick, I’d side with San Jose. They’ve owned the Canadiens in recent years and while I’m not a fan of San Jose’s goaltending, the Habs just look lost without Carey Price in net. San Jose and the plus money sounds good to me here.
