The New Jersey Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes meet in NHL action from the PNC Arena on Saturday night.

The New Jersey Devils will look to rebound from a third straight loss after a 3-2 loss to New Jersey last time out. Jesper Bratt leads the Devils in scoring with 39 points including team-highs of 14 goals and 25 assists while Andreas Johnsson has 24 points with 10 goals and 14 assists. Dougie Hamilton also has 20 points with 7 goals and 13 assists and Nico Hischier has 24 points with 8 goals and 16 assists this season. Jack Hughes also has 25 points with 11 goals and 14 assists this season. The aforementioned Johnsson also has a team-high +3 plus/minus rating as well this season.

The Carolina Hurricanes will be out to build on their 3-2 shootout win over Ottawa last time out. Sebastian Aho leads the ‘Canes in scoring with 44 points while Teuvo Teravainen has 33 points and Andrei Svechnikov has 36, with Aho logging a team-high 19 goals and 25 assists while Svechnikov has 22 assists and Teravainen has 21 assists as well. Tony DeAngelo’s got 33 points with 26 assists and the aforementioned Teravainen has a team-high +16 plus/minus rating this season.  Frederik Andersen’s seen the bulk of the action in goal for Carolina, going 23-6 with a 2.05 GAA and a .928 save percentage this season.

New Jersey is 7-22 in their last 29 road games and 28-59 in their last 87 games overall while the over is 10-2 in their last 12 games as a road underdog. Carolina is 37-16 in their last 53 home games and 29-11 in their last 40 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a win.

I get the case to be made either way here as the plus money’s tempting as the Devils just beat the Hurricanes, but the ‘Canes are the far better team. Instead, I’m going to side with the over. The last meeting between these two teams saw 11 goals and while I’m not sure we’ll have that same output, I think this one soars over the number.
