Game Five Recap: Avs Stay Alive

The Colorado Avalanche managed to live to fight another day after forcing a game six with a 5-3 win in game five. Joe Pavelski opened the scoring for the Stars just past the nine-minute mark of the opening frame before Artturi Lehkonen tied the game at one for Colorado with less than one second to go in the first. Miro Heiskanen would restore the lead for Dallas on the power play just after the midway point of the second, but Cale Makar would tie the game again for Colorado at two with 2:36 to go in the middle frame. Casey Mittelstadt gave Colorado their first lead of the game just 1:12 into the 3rd and Makar doubled the lead with his second goal of the game just 3:16 later. Logan Stankoven would cut the deficit back to 4-3 just 1:16 later, but that’s as close as Dallas would get as Nathan MacKinnon would restore the two-goal cushion with 3:10 to go to seal the deal. Alexandar Georgiev got the win for Colorado in goal after stopping 23 of 26 shots faced in the victory while Jake Oettinger ended up with the loss after allowing all 5 goals on 27 shots faced in the defeat.

Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars Prediction

I’m leaning towards Colorado here. The Avs for me have just been too good of a team to get blown out in the series and just when I gave Dallas the benefit of the doubt, the Avs come through and decide to wake from their slumber. Like we’ve seen teams say in the NBA, don’t let them get one. A team with plenty of experience like Colorado is more than well-versed in playoff hockey to get themselves back into the series and I think this one’s headed for game seven. It just feels right. Give me the Avs here to force game 7.
