Columbus defeated San Jose by a score of 4-2 in the game prior to Winnipeg, but lost the three games before that. The Blue Jackets are scoring 2.90 goals per game and they are allowing 3.59 goals against per game, while going 14% on the power play and 77.3% on the penalty kill. Johnny Gaudreau has led Columbus with 11 goals, 39 assists, and 134 shots on goal. The projected starting goalie for Columbus is Daniil Tarasov, who is 7-9-2 this year with a 3.16 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.

Red Wings Preview

The Detroit Red Wings are 34-28-6 this year after they lost to Pittsburgh by a score of 6-3 in their last game. Detroit allowed five goals in the first two periods and they continue to have massive defensive issues. The Red Wings were out shot by a total of 38-28 and went 1-2 on the power play in the game. Detroit defeated Buffalo by a score of 4-1 in the game prior to Pittsburgh, but did lose the previous seven games. • The Red Wings have lost the second period in each of their last four games as favorites following a road loss.

Columbus Blue Jackets Team Facts

  • The Blue Jackets have won the first period in four of their last five games following a loss.

Blue Jackets vs Red Wings Betting Prediction

Detroit comes into this matchup really struggling over the last few weeks, and they really cannot afford to lose this game in their pursuit of a wild card spot. The Red Wings are 19-11-5 at home this season, but they have had some terrible defensive/goaltending play lately. Columbus has lost four of their last five games, and they have scored two goals or fewer in all four of those losses. This is an interesting matchup because we have one team that can’t score and one team that can’t keep the puck out of their own net. I think we could see a higher scoring game in this matchup, as Pittsburgh just torched the Wings on Sunday. Give me the over here.
