The New York Rangers come into this game looking to add on to their 5-1 win over Tampa Bay last time out to sit at 1-1 this season. After this game, the Rangers will head back home for a game against the Utah Mammoth.

Detroit Red Wings Team Preview

The Detroit Red Wings enter the 2026-27 season looking to snap their playoff drought after finishing 6th in the Atlantic Division with a 41-31-10 record under head coach Todd McLellan last year. Franchise cornerstone and captain Dylan Larkin has thrown a wrench into things by asking for a trade to be made, leaving the load to be shouldered by guys like Lucas Raymond and sniper Alex DeBrincat, while dynamic young core pieces like Marco Kasper and Nate Danielson step into heavier middle-six center roles. Detroit’s front office spent the offseason altering their depth chart, bringing in veteran scoring winger Viktor Arvidsson and physical forward Keegan Kolesar while letting veteran Patrick Kane walk in free agency. On defense, top-pairing star Moritz Seider anchors a group that welcomed blue-line additions Justin Faulk and top prospect Axel Sandin-Pellikka to play alongside veterans Ben Chiarot and Simon Edvinsson. In goal, veteran John Gibson returns alongside newly acquired netminder Daniil Tarasov to handle duties between the pipes, providing Detroit with a steady tandem as they push to climb back into the Eastern Conference postseason race.

New York Rangers vs. Detroit Red Wings Prediction

I’m on the Red Wings here. It’s a big price to lay with a Red Wings team that’s dealing with a big blow in potentially losing their captain, but the thing is that New York’s on a back-to-back and we are likely seeing rookie Dylan Garand, who had ups and downs in limited action last year once the Rangers were already bounced from the postseason. There could be a case made for rest vs rust with the Rangers having already played two games, even on a back-to-back while the Red Wings have yet to take the ice in 2026-27, but I think Detroit gets to Garand and starts the season at home on a high note. Give me Detroit.
