The Washington Capitals will play the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Washington has won four of their last five games, while Detroit is on a five game winning streak. Let’s take a look at the betting matchup and the Capitals vs Red Wings prediction.

Capitals Preview

The Washington Capitals are 27-21-9 this year after they defeated Ottawa by a score of 6-3 in their last game. Washington scored four goals in the first period and added two more in the second for the win. The Capitals were out shot by a total of 21-20 and went 2-3 on the power play in the game. Washington lost to Florida by a score of 3-2 in the game prior to Ottawa, but did beat Tampa Bay, New Jersey, and Montreal before that. The Capitals are scoring 2.52 goals per game and they are allowing 3.05 goals against per game, while going 16.8% on the power play and 80.1% on the penalty kill. Dylan Strome has led Washington with 21 goals, 22 assists, and 123 shots on goal. The projected starting goalie for Washington is Charlie Lindgren, who is 12-8-5 this year with a 2.64 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.

Red Wings Preview

The Detroit Red Wings are 32-20-6 this season after they defeated Chicago in overtime by a score of 3-2 in their last game. Detroit trailed 2-1 in the third period, but they tied the game up with about four minutes left and won in overtime on a goal by Kane. The Red Wings were out shot by a total of 36-31 and went 0-1 on the penalty kill in the game. Detroit has also defeated St. Louis, Colorado, Seattle, and Calgary during this winning streak. The Red Wings are scoring 3.50 goals per game and they are allowing 3.16 goals against per game, while going 23.3% on the power play and 82% on the penalty kill. Alex DeBrincat has led Detroit with 22 goals, 30 assists, and 159 shots on goal. The projected starting goalie for Detroit is Alex Lyon, who is 17-8-2 this year with a 2.68 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

Detroit Red Wings Team Facts

  • The Red Wings have lost four of their last five games as home favorites following a road win.
  • The Red Wings have failed to cover the puck line in 10 of their last 11 games as home favorites against Eastern Conference opponents.
  • The ‘Over 1.5 Goals Period 2′ market has hit in each of the Red Wings’ last 10 Tuesday games.
  • The Red Wings have won the first period in each of their last four games as favorites.

Washington Capitals Team Facts

  • The Capitals have won each of their last seven night games against the Red Wings following a home win.
  • The underdogs have covered the puck line in seven of the Capitals’ last eight games.
  • The Capitals have lost the first period in seven of their last eight games as underdogs following a home win.
  • The ‘Over 1.5 Goals Period 1′ market has hit in each of the Capitals’ last six games against opponents on a winning streak.

Capitals vs Red Wings Betting Prediction

Both of these teams come into this game playing very well, but Detroit will be at home and they have the rest advantage. Washington is coming off of a win against Ottawa on Monday, so they will be on a back to back here. Detroit has won five games in a row and they did have a day off on Monday. The Red Wings are playing at a very high level right now and not only are they scoring a good amount of goals, but they are playing very well defensively. The Wings are 17-8-5 at home, while Washington is 12-12-4 on the road. Washington is one of the lower scoring teams in the NHL and I think we could see a slower pace from them on a back to back. Take the under here.
