The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Edmonton Oilers meet in NHL action from Rogers Place on Monday night.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to build on back-to-back wins and a 4-0-1 record after a 6-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in their last game. Sidney Crosby has a team-high 10 points with 3 goals and a team-high 7 assists while Danton Heinen has 6 points with 3 goals of his own and 3 assists. Jake Guentzel and Evgeni Malkin each have 5 points with 3 goals and 2 assists while Bryan Rust has 5 points with 2 goals and 3 apples and Kasperi Kapanen has 5 points with 4 assists. Tristan Jarry has gone 4-0 with a 2.01 GAA and a .941 save percentage while Casey DeSmith is 0-0-1 with a 2.85 GAA and a .923 save percentage in goal for Pittsburgh this season.
The Edmonton Oilers will try to rebound from a 2-0 loss at the hands of the St. Louis Blues in their last matchup, dropping to 2-3 on the year as a result. Connor McDavid leads the Oilers with 10 points split between a team-high 5 goals and 5 assists while Leon Draisaitl has 8 points with a team-high 6 assists. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has 5 points with a pair of goals and 3 assists and Zach Hyman has 4 points with 3 assists as well this season. Jack Campbell’s posted a record of 2-2 with a 3.82 GAA and an .889 save percentage while Stuart Skinner’s gone 0-1 with a 1.69 GAA and a .944 save percentage in goal for Edmonton this season.
I get the case to be made for the Oilers at home here, but I’m still not sold on the goaltending for Edmonton despite a solid showing from Campbell against the Blues. Pittsburgh’s boasting one of the higher-scoring offenses in the NHL early on this year and while I expect this game to be fast-paced, I expect Pittsburgh to handle the pressure a bit better than the Oilers and for the wall to eventually break down for Edmonton. I think we’re getting a fantastic price on the Penguins here, so give me Pittsburgh.
