In this article, we will formulate a NY Rangers vs Washington Capitals prediction for this NHL game on Tuesday, April 23rd at Madison Square Garden.

Capitals Offense Struggles in First Game

The Capitals knew they would have their backs against the wall heading into this series and the first game just wasn’t good enough. The defense for the Capitals started well and in the first period, they didn’t give up any goals. In the second period though, the Capitals defense struggled giving up three goals and that led to the defeat. Martin Feheravy scored the only goal for the Capitals. Alexander Ovechkin is still supposed to be the start of the team but he failed to even get a shot on goal. If Ovechkin isn’t getting shots on goal, this Capitals team could be swept here. Charlie Lindgren started in goal and he saved 27 of the 31 shots that he faced. The Capitals offense during the regular season was ranked 28th while the defense is ranked 17th in the league. Goalie Nicklas Backstrom is out for the entire season as he recovers from hip surgery. Defenseman Nick Jensen and Rasmus Sandin are both dealing with an upper-body injury and are out indefinitely.

Rangers Have The Confidence

The Rangers have a ton of confidence heading into this game after winning the first game 4-1. In the first period, the Rangers couldn’t get any sort of offense going. In the second period, they got one past and then the floodgates opened up quickly. Jimmy Vessey saved a goal and added an assist. Artemi Panarin finished with seven shots on goal and a goal. Igor Shersterkin saved 20 of the 21 shots that he faced. The Rangers offense this season is ranked 6th while the defense is ranked 7th. If the defense is good again, the Rangers should be in very good shape to secure the victory. Blake Wheeler is dealing with a lower-body injury still and he’s out for the season. Center Filip Chytil is out for the rest of the playoffs with an upper-body injury.

  • The ‘Over 1.5 Goals Period 2′ market has hit in 11 of the Rangers’ last 12 games as favorites against Metropolitan Division opponents.

Washington Capitals Team Facts

  • The Capitals have covered the puck line in each of their last four night games against the Rangers following a road loss.

NY Rangers vs Washington Capitals Prediction

The Capitals offense has been a major issue all season and it’s a bit shocking that they made it into the playoffs with how bad the offense has been all season. The Rangers defense is ranked 7th in the league and the Capitals are going to struggle to get quality shots on target. Ovechkin isn’t going to be an x-factor here, and the Capitals could be shut out here. The Rangers offense will start the goal-scoring in the first period, and they aren’t going to look back on the way to the victory. Back the Rangers on the puck line. This is one of the strongest plays on the board for Tuesday.
