The Philadelphia Flyers will play the Washington Capitals on Friday night at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Let’s take a look at the Flyers preview, Capitals preview, betting matchup, and the Flyers vs Capitals prediction.

Flyers Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers are 31-22-7 this season after they defeated the Lightning by a score of 6-2 in their last game. Philadelphia was tied at one in the third period, but they scored five goals in the third for the win. The Flyers out shot Tampa Bay by a total of 31-22 and went 0-3 on the power play in the game. Philadelphia has lost two of their last three games and four of their last five, with the only other win in that span coming against Chicago. The Flyers are scoring 2.98 goals per game and they are allowing 2.92 goals against per game, while going 13% on the power play and 86.2% on the penalty kill. Joel Farabee has 17 goals, 27 assists, and 141 shots on goal. The projected starting goalie for Philadelphia is Samuel Ersson, who is 17-11-4 this year with a 2.55 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.

Capitals Preview

The Washington Capitals are 27-22-9 this year after they lost to Detroit by a score of 8-3 in their last game. Washington cut the deficit to 4-2 in the second period, but allowed Detroit to score four of the last five goals in the loss. The Capitals were out shot by a total of 31-21 and went 1-2 on the power play in the game. Washington has lost two of their last three games, as they did beat Ottawa by a score of 6-3 prior to Detroit. The Capitals are scoring 2.59 goals per game and they are allowing 3.14 goals against per game, while going 18.1% on the power play and 80% on the penalty kill. Dylan Strome has led Washington with 21 goals, 22 assists, and 124 shots on goal. The projected starting goalie for Washington is Charlie Lindgren, who is 12-9-5 this season with a 2.85 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.

  • The Capitals have won the second period in four of their last five night games at Capital One Arena.
  • The ‘Over 1.5 Goals Period 1′ market has hit in each of the Capitals’ last six home games.

Philadelphia Flyers Team Facts

  • The Flyers have lost each of their last five games against Metropolitan Division opponents.
  • The Flyers have covered the puck line in each of their last seven night games following a win.
  • The road team has won the second period in each of the Flyers’ last four games.

Flyers vs Capitals Betting Prediction

Washington limps into this game after a blowout loss in Detroit last time out, but they need to put that behind them here. The Capitals are fading in the playoff race and need to start stacking wins up. Washington is only scoring 2.59 goals per game this season and will face a Philadelphia team that is very solid defensively. Both teams have dropped two of their last three and while Philadelphia has been good on the road this season, they are just 1-2 in their last three road games. I know the Capitals are coming off of a bad loss and they are dealing with injuries, but I like them to bounce back with a win here.
