Stade de Reims is hosting Lille OSC at Stade Auguste Delaune in round 2 in French Ligue 1.
Reims has been solid in the preseason, and they were very good in their season opener against Monaco on the road. Reims has had only 24% of ball possession in that game, 3 shots on goal, 1 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and low 69% of the correct passes. Reims has scored 2 goals early in the game, but those goals came from Monaco’s mistakes. Reims wasn’t good enough in the second half, and Monaco was able to tie the result. The final score of this match was 2-2. Toure and Dia have each scored 1 goal in the first game of the season. Donis is the only injured player for Reims, while there are no suspensions at this time. Reims had some good moments in their game against Monaco, but they were under immense pressure during the entire match, and to be honest, Reims was pretty lucky to even get a point out of this game. Reims won’t have a problem in securing their Ligue 1 status, but they will not be in the top half of the standings in my opinion.
Lille has been shaky in the preseason, and their start of the Ligue 1 hasn’t been great. In their season opener, Lille was facing Rennais at home, and they were solid in that match with 51% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 4 corner kicks, and solid 84% of the correct passes. Lille had an extra player when Rennais conceded a red card in the 35th minute, and they used it well. Lille scored a leading goal in the 40th minute. In the 43rd minute, Lille conceded a red card, and we were back in the beginning. Rennais scored a tying goal in the 74th minute, and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Bamba is the only goalscorer so far for Lille. Mandava is suspended because of the red card. Timothy Weah is the only injured player for Lille at the moment. Lille ended the last season on high 4th place, just 1 point away from the Champions League, but as a consolation, Lille will play in the Europa League this season. Defensively, Lille was one of the best teams in Ligue 1 last season, and their ambitions this season are quite high. I think Lille has a good enough team to make a mess in Ligue 1, but they need to get their offense going as soon as possible. Their first game of the season wasn’t great, but it’s only the start of the season.
When playing at home, Reims has not lost to Lille in their last 6 games, while winning their last 4 home games in a row. Both teams started the season with a draw, and Reims wasn’t great in their first game, but Monaco is a stronger team than Lille. I think I will pick something on goals here.
