Villarreal is hosting Eibar at Estadio de la Ceramica in round 2 in Spanish LaLiga.
Villarreal is in a bad form, and they have won only 2 of their last 6 games. Their first LaLiga game against Huesca last week was solid, but Villarreal wasn’t able to win in that match. Villarreal was the dominant team in that game with 65% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and solid 86% of the correct passes. Villarreal was sloppy defensively in the first half, and thanks to that, Villarreal was losing 0-1 at half time. In the second half, Villarreal got their defense in line, and they were able to tie the result from the penalty spot in the 68th minute. Until the end of the game, Villarreal has had a few more good chances, but they weren’t able to score, and the final result was 1-1. Gerard Moreno is the only goalscorer for Villarreal so far with 1 goal. Guerra, Bacca, and Alberto Moreno are all injured, and they will not be in the lineup for this game. I liked what I saw from Villarreal in their first game, and once they get their offense going, I think Villarreal could be a big threat to the top 4 teams in LaLiga.
Eibar hasn’t lost any of their last 3 games, but they also haven’t won any of their last 4 games. Eibar is on a 3-game draw streak, which includes their first game of the season against Celta Vigo at home. Eibar was decent in that match with 50% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 3 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and extremely low 55% of the correct passes. This was a sloppy and rough game from both teams, and Eibar has conceded a red card in the 87th minute if the game. The final result was 0-0. Eibar is still waiting to score their first goal of the season. Angel, Arbilla, and Cubero are all injured, and they will not be playing in this game. Eibar was able to stay out of the relegation zone last season, but unless they start playing better soccer soon, Eibar might dig themselves a hole from which it will be hard to climb out. Eibar is not a strong team, and they need every point they can get to stay outside the relegation zone, but from what I’ve seen in their first game, Eibar will have a tough time in accomplishing that mission. Of course, the season is long, and anything is possible, but I see Eibar at the bottom of the table.
The trends are split in this matchup, but Villarreal hasn’t lost to Eibar in their last 3 home games. During the last 9 home games, Villarreal has won 6 games, Eibar has won 2 games, while 1 game ended in a draw. Eibar is in far worse form than Villarreal, and Villarreal is the better team here, and for that reason, I will side with Villarreal.
