Bayer 04 Leverkusen is welcoming Wolfsburg to BayArena in round 28 of German Bundesliga.

I know that Bayer is a fantastic, young team, but I didn’t expect this kind of dominance after a 2-month break. In their two games since the season has started again, Bayer has scored 7 goals and has won both of their games, and they looked good doing it. Defensively, Bayer has also been on a high level with only 2 conceded goals. With these two victories, Bayer is now in 4th place in the Bundesliga standings, the last place that leads to the Champions League. In their last Bundesliga game against Borussia M’gladbach on the road, Bayer has had 55% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 82% of the correct passes. With 2 goals from their captain Kai Havertz and one goal from Sven Bender, Bayer has won this match 1-3. Havertz is Bayer’s top goalscorer with 10 goals, while Volland added 9 goals and 7 assists, but unfortunately for Bayer, Volland is injured alongside with Lars Bender. Bayer Leverkusen is on an incredible run of 10 games without a loss, while they won 9 of those 10 games, and just to make things a little bit more interesting, Bayer has scored at least 2 goals in 9 of those 10 games. Bayer is a good team which might be closer to the top spot in a year or two if they manage to keep their core players, but as of right now, third or fourth place is their maximum, with which Bayer is happy because it will take them to the Champions League.

Wolfsburg was in solid form before the break, and they even won their first game after the break 2 weeks ago, but unfortunately, Wolfsburg couldn’t go toe to toe with Borussia Dortmund this past weekend. Wolfsburg has had only 38% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 79% of the correct passes in that match. Wolfsburg has lost this game 0-2 at home. With 39 points, 36 scored goals, and 33 conceded goals, Wolfsburg is in 6th place in the standings, the last place that leads to the Europa League, something that will be hard to keep if Wolfsburg doesn’t go back on winning track because three teams behind Wolfsburg are within one game reach. Weghorst has scored 11 goals for Wolfsburg and is their leading goal scorer. Camacho, William, Guilovogui, Gerhardt, and Karamoko are all injured. Most of these injured players would be in the starting lineup if they are healthy, which means this is a huge blow for Wolfsburg and coach Glasner. It will be a tough test of the season for Wolfsburg, but I believe they have the quality to keep the 6th place and that they can qualify for the Europa League.

Leverkusen hasn’t won any of their last three home games against Wolfsburg, but there is one thing that is consistent in this matchup, goals. I’m not stepping in front of this Leverkusen train when they are playing this well.
