Real Sociedad is hosting Espanyol at Reale Arena in round 33 of Spanish LaLiga.

There aren’t many teams in LaLiga that are in a worse form than Real Sociedad. They haven’t won any of their last 5 games since the restart, and they scored a goal in only 3 of those games while conceding a goal in all 5 of those games. Sociedad is in 7th place in LaLiga with 47 points, still close to the Europa League, but it doesn’t look good for Sociedad unless they start winning some games. Real Sociedad has scored 48 goals so far this season which isn’t bad, but they conceded 41 goals so far, the most from the top 7 teams in the standings. In their last LaLiga games against Getafe on the road, Sociedad has had 60% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 4 corner kicks, and low 68% of the correct passes. Real Sociedad has lost this game 2-1. Jose and Oyarzabal have both scored 9 goals for Sociedad this season, while Portu and Isak each added 7 goals. Oyarzabal also added 8 assists, while Portu added 7 assists. Guevara, Sangalli, Illarramendi, and Barrenetxea are all injured, while Odegaard is questionable. All of these injuries have had some impact on Sociedad’s form, but many teams have a lot of injured players and they are playing better soccer. Even without these players, Sociedad has enough quality to play better soccer, but it’s just not coming to surface.

Espanyol is still the worst team in LaLiga, and they are in the last place in the standings with 24 points, 26 scored goals, and massive 51 conceded goals. In their last 5 games since the restart, Espanyol has won only 1 game, and that was against Alaves at home. In the last 4 games they played, Espanyol has scored only 1 goal, while conceding 5 goals. De Tomas and Lei are Espanyol’s top goal scorers with only 4 goals each, while Espinosa and Lopez added 3 goals. Pipa and Ferreyra are both injured and will not be in the lineup. In their last LaLiga game against Real Madrid at home, Espanyol has had only 31% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 0 corner kicks, and 76% of the correct passes. I know it doesn’t look like it by looking at the stats, but Espanyol had a decent game, but they still lost 0-1. There is nothing in Espanyol’s game this season that is good, not on the defensive end, and certainly not in the attacking part. Espanyol is massive 10 points away from the safe zone, and I just don’t see them getting there. I’m afraid the season is over for Espanyol and they will get relegated to LaLiga 2.

When playing at home, Sociedad has not lost to Espanyol in their last 4 games, but both Sociedad and Espanyol are in a terrible form. I think this is the perfect opportunity for Sociedad to get their first win since the restart because Espanyol is the worst team in LaLiga, and it would be embarrassing to lose toe Espanyol at home.
