Roma is a solid and young team that is having a decent season where they are in 5th place in the standings with 45 points, 51 scored goals, and only 35 conceded goals. In the Europa League, Roma will be playing against Sevilla in the Round of 16, once the competition starts again of course. In their last Serie A game against Cagliari before the season was paused, Roma has had 44% of ball possession, huge 11 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 81% of the correct passes. With 4 scored goals, Roma has won this game 2-4. Edin Dzeko has scored 12 goals for Roma this season, while Kolarov and Mkhitaryan added 6 goals each. Lorenzo Pellegrini added 8 assists. Nicola Zaniolo is one of Roma’s best players, but he is injured and will not be in the lineup for this game, Mkhitaryan and Lopez are still questionable. What makes Roma a great team that has lots of potentials is their young coach Paulo Fonseca that knows how to utilize his best players and get the best out of them. There are still ways to go, but Roma is on the right track which we can see by their results this season.

Sampdoria is having a tough season and their form has been wildly inconsistent. With only 26 points, Sampdoria is in 16th place, just 1 point away from the relegation zone, and since there are no relegation playoffs this season, Sampdoria can’t afford to lose many more games. Sampdoria is playing bad on both ends, especially in the attacking end where they scored only 29 goals in 26 games. Their defense has also been one of the worst in Serie A with 46 conceded goals. In seven of their last 8 games, Sampdoria has conceded at least 1 goal, but they also scored in all 7 of those matches. In their latest Serie A game against Inter this past weekend, Sampdoria has had extremely low 28% of ball possession, only 2 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and low 66% of the correct passes. Despite playing really, really bad, Sampdoria has lost only 2-1. Alex Ferrari is injured, while Quagliarella is still questionable for this match. Sampdoria is close to the relegation zone, dangerously close, but in my opinion, Sampdoria has the quality to stay in Serie A next season as well.

Roma has dominated in this series, especially at home. This being their first game, Roma might have the rest advantage, but after a three-month break, this shouldn’t be the issue for either of the teams. Roma is the better team here, and I think they will restart their season with a nice win at home, which is hard to come by without the audience.
