Valencia is welcoming Espanyol to Mestalla in round 37 in Spanish LaLiga.

Valencia has been a mess since the restart, and they have only 2 wins, 5 losses, and 2 draws in their last 9 games. Valencia is far from the relegation zone thanks to their solid first half of the season, in 9th place with 50 points, and even though Valencia still can get to the Europa League spot, I don’t see it happening because they are playing against Sevilla in the last game of the season. In their last game against Leganes on the road, Valencia has had 69% of ball possession, solid 5 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and decent 86% of the correct passes. As they did in most of the games since the restart, Valencia has been struggling on both ends, and in the end, Valencia has lost this game 1-0. Valencia has scored 45 goals so far this season, which isn’t bad, but their defense is among the worst in LaLiga with 52 conceded goals in 36 games. Gomez has scored 9 goals for Valencia this season, while Parejo added 8 goals. Moreno has 7 assists. Piccini, Gaya, and Moreno are all injured and will not be in the lineup for this game. Valencia could have done so much more this season, but I guess playing in the Champions League has cost them more than they expected.

The season is over for Espanyol as they will get relegated to LaLiga 2. With only 24 points from 36 games so far this season, Espanyol is in the last place in the standings. With the weakest offense that scored only 27 goals and one of the worst defenses in LaLiga with 57 conceded goals, Espanyol didn’t stand a chance. Espanyol has won their first game after the restart, but after that, they haven’t won any of their last 8 games, and Espanyol is on a 7-game losing streak in LaLiga. De Tomas, Lopez, and Lei are Espanyol’s top goal scorers with only 4 goals each, while Embarba added 4 assists. There are no injuries in Espanyol, but Pipa is still questionable. In their last LaLiga game against Eibar at home, Espanyol has had massive 72% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and solid 82% of the correct passes. Despite being the dominant team in this game, bad morale in combination with their form has cost Espanyol the win. Espanyol has lost this match 0-2. There is not much to say about Espanyol, they have had some solid performances, but far from enough to stay in LaLiga. Good luck in LaLiga 2, Espanyol.

The only clear choice here is to side with Valencia at home, and that is exactly what I’m going to do. Valencia would buy themselves one more chance to get to the Europa League with a win here.
