Atletico Madrid and Villarreal are clashing at Wanda Metropolitano in round 3 of the Spanish LaLiga. Atletico has started this season with 2 nice wins, and they will be looking to keep this train going. Villarreal is in bad form at the moment, but I think it’s only a matter of time before they get back on track.

Atletico has won both of their games in the league so far, and they have scored 3 goals while conceding only 1 goal, and that was against Celta in round 1. As far as their second game goes, Atletico was playing against Elche at home last weekend, and they have had 42% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 84% of the correct passes. This wasn’t a nice game, there haven’t been many good chances, but Atletico has scored a goal in the 39^th minute, and that was enough for a 1-0 win at home. Correa is now the only goalscorer for Atletico with 3 goals. Felix, Arias, and Herrera are all still injured, while Felipe is questionable for this match. I think Atletico is the biggest favorite to win the title, and their defense is what will get them there, but they will also need to improve their offense, and I have no doubt that will come as well.

Villarreal is struggling massively, right now, and they haven’t won any of their last 9 games. The good news for Villarreal is they haven’t lost any of their first two games this season, and they both ended in a 0-0 draw. Defensively, Villarreal is solid, as they were last season, but their offense is not producing at the moment, and that is why they are not getting any wins. In their last game against Espanyol, Villarreal has had 60% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and 88% of the correct passes. This was another rough game, there haven’t been many chances created, and it ended in a 0-0 draw, the saddest of all results. Dani Parejo and Chukwueze are both still injured. Villarreal has a really good team on both ends, and there are rumors they will sign Brekalo from Wolfsburg, and great players who can give them more assists, and a lot of speed on the wings. I think Villarreal will snap out of this soon, and once they do, we can expect great soccer.
