Canada vs. El Salvador 9/8/21 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifications Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Canada and El Salvador face off on Wednesday in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying at BMO Field. These two teams last faced off in 2017 and it was El Salvador that came away with the 1-0 victory. 

Canada has picked up two points so far in qualifying after playing to 1-1 draws in each of the first two games. In each of the first two games, Canada has fallen behind before coming back in the second half and grabbing a point. Cyle Larin has been the star of the show so far in the tournament scoring the two goal’s and against the USA in the last game, it came in the 62nd minute. Canada only managed six total shots with only two of them going on goal. Canada also only had 28 percent of the possession and if they want to get the job done in this game, they need to find a way to be the team playing the attack. Canada also can’t be giving up the first goal and trying to fight back from behind. 

On the other side of this matchup is El Salvador who has also played to a couple of draws so far, and each of the games ended 0-0. In the last game against Honduras, El Salvador had 70 percent of the possession but could only manage one shot on goal. They also only gave up one shot on goal. It’s clear this El Salvador team has a good defense, but their offense is really lacking, and at some point, they are going to need to go and try to get three points, instead of being content with draws. 

I expect extra urgency by both teams early as they try to pick up the three points, but I don’t think either team is going to find a whole lot of success. Both offenses haven’t looked great so far this tournament, especially El Salvador that hasn’t found the back of the net. Back the under to cash.
