Canada and Panama face off on Wednesday night in a CONCACAF world cup qualifier at BMO Field. The last time these two teams faced off was in 2014 the two teams played to a 0-0 draw.
Panama currently sits in third place in the standings having picked up eight points. Each of the last two games for Panama has had only one point scored. Two games ago against El Salvador, Panama lost 1-0 and in the last game, they beat the United States 1-0. Anibal Godoy scored the goal in the 54th minute, and that was the difference as they came away with the victory. Panama had eight shots and four shots on target. Three games ago, Panama beat Jamaica 3-0, but for the most part, this is a team that has been involved in low-scoring games. In this game, the defense is going to need to be good or they won’t pick up any points.
On the other side of this matchup is Canada who sits in 4th place in the standings having picked up seven points. Each of the last two games for Canada has ended in draws. Two games ago, against Mexico, it was a 1-1 draw, and in the last game against Jamaica, it was a 0-0 draw. Canada dominated every part of the game, except with the goal scoring. Canada had 10 shots and two shots on goal. They also had 64 percent of the possession, but that doesn’t matter if they can’t find the back of the net.
These are two teams who haven’t done a whole lot of scoring chances, and I don’t expect that is going to change in this game. Canada might score a goal in this game, but neither team is going to be scoring two or three goals. Look for this game to stay under the total.
