Italy is hosting Switzerland at Stadio Olimpico in Group C of the UEFA World Cup Qualifications. Italy is at the top of this group, they are the best team defensively, and they are scoring a lot of goals. Switzerland is in second place, but I’m sure they would love to avoid the additional qualifications, and they still can.
Italy has most recently beaten Belgium in the 3rd place match in the Nations League, and that has certainly been a nice confidence boost for this team. In these qualifications, Italy has scored 12 goals in 6 games, while they conceded only 1 goal, and they have been the best team defensively. In that game against Belgium, Italy has had 40% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 87% of the correct passes. The first half was kinda slow, but Italy has stepped up in the second half, and they were leading 2-0 in the 65th minute. Italy has conceded a goal in the 86th minute, but they have still won this game 2-1. In these qualifications, Kean and Immobile have been the leading goalscorers for Italy with 2 goals each, but they are not on the roster because of injuries. Zaniolo and Pellegrini are also missing this round, while Chiellini is still questionable. I’m sure Italy would also love to stay at the top, and all they need here is a positive result.
Switzerland has also been outstanding in these qualifications, but they were slightly worse than Italy in the attacking end. Switzerland is now in 2nd place with 14 points, but they could still take over the top. in their last game against Lithuania, Switzerland was the dominant team, as expected, and they have had 70% of ball possession, 11 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. With 3 scored goals in the first half and 1 more scored goal in the second half, Switzerland has won this game 0-4. The Swiss roster is filled with all of their most important players, they are all healthy, and most of them are in good form. Embolo has scored 3 goals for Switzerland in these qualifications, while Zuber added 2 goals. We know Switzerland can play really well and score a lot of goals, and that is what they have been doing so far, but if they want to take over the top, they need a positive result in this game, or a win, which would be perfect.
These two teams were playing against each other last month, and that game ended in a 0-0 draw. Honestly, I don’t see the draw in this game, especially because both teams could use a win, and for that reason, I will take something on goals here.
