Costa Rica and Jamaica face off on Wednesday in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying at Costa Rica’s National Stadium. These two teams faced off in July and it was Costa Rica that came away with the 1-0 victory.
Costa Rica can’t be very happy with how the qualifying has gone so far. To start the qualifiers Costa Rica played to a 0-0 draw against Panama, and in the last game against Mexico, they were defeated 1-0. In the first game, Costa Rica only had 43 percent of the possession and in the last game, they only managed one shot on goal. Even though Costa Rica did have 51 percent of the possession, they really couldn’t get much offense going or any good scoring chances. In this game, Costa Rica needs to do more to put pressure on the Jamaica defense or they could have some issues.
On the other side of this matchup is Jamaica who has not looked good the last two games. In the first game, they were defeated by Mexico 2-1 and in the last game against Panama they gave up three goals. Jamaica was at home in the last game, and they still struggled only having 39 percent of the possession and only managed six total shots. Jamaica gave up a goal in the 14th minute, and they seemed to really go into a shell after that. This is a defense that has had issues all summer, and it needs to get better soon.
Jamaica’s defense has been an issue, but I still don’t trust Costa Rica’s offense. I expect not many scoring chances for either team, and the ones they do get, won’t result in many goals. Back the under.
