Everton and Chelsea face off on Saturday in an English Premier League showdown at Goodison Park. When these two teams faced off on May 1st it was Everton that secured the 1-0 victory.
There was some concern last season that Everton might be relegated, and heading into this season there are some major concerns about how this team will finish. Everton wasn’t super busy during the transfer window, but they did sign Dwight McNeil from Burnley. There is a ton of pressure on this team, but a lot of it will come down to the Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Calvert-Lewin was impressive during the 2020-21 season, but last year he was very inconsistent, and Everton needs him to get back to his old form. If Everton gets out to a slow start, don’t be shocked if Frank Lampard is fired. Heading into the season, Everton has been inconsistent. Three games ago, against Minnesota United, they were defeated 4-0. Two games ago against Blackpool they won 4-2 and in the last game against Dynamo Kyiv, they won 3-0. Everton needs the offense to find success here.
On the other side of this matchup is Chelsea, and they finished last season in 3rd place in the standings, having picked up 74 points. The big signing this off season for Chelsea was Raheem Sterling, and he has already scored 100 Premier League goals during his young career. If Chelsea wants to compete for another title, Sterling is going to need to have a big year. Chelsea has also been very inconsistent in the preseason. They lost to Orlando City on penalty kicks and Arsenal 4-0 in the Florida Cup Final. In the last game against Udinese Chelsea was able to win 3-1.
Goodison Park is a tough place to play, but Chelsea are still going to find success, and they are actually at a decent price. Everton’s defense has shown some major holes and that is going to be the difference here. Chelsea is going to score a couple of goals, and they will come away with the victory.
