FC Porto and Bayer Leverkusen face off on Tuesday in a UEFA Champions League Group B showdown at Estádio do Dragão. 

FC Porto currently sits in 4th place in the group, having picked up zero points. Porto’s last Champions League game came against Club Brugge and that was a 4-0 defeat. They had 55 percent of the possession and four shots on target, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. On Friday, they faced off against Braga, and they were able to secure the 4-1 victory. Mehdi Taremi was suspended in the last game, but he is back for this game and this is going to be a big boost for the team. Pepe is also back with the club after injury, and he’s expected to play a big role in this game. 

On the other side of this matchup is Bayer Leverkusen, who sit in second place in the group having picked up three points. In the last Champions League against Atlético Madrid and they were able to secure a 2-0 victory. They scored goals in the 84th and 87th minute and that led to the defeat. They had five shots on target and 45 percent of the possession. Bayer Leverkusen has a ton of injuries heading into this game, and that is going to hurt the squad. Star player Florian Wirtz is still not back with the team after getting injured all the way back in March. Exequiel Palacios is also dealing with a hamstring injury, and he won’t be able to go in this game. 

Both of the teams know they need to try to pick up the three points here, and I expect that will lead to both teams pushing more numbers forward. With more numbers forward, there will be more scoring chances for both teams, but also more chances on the counterattack.
