Portugal and Switzerland face off on Tuesday in the Round of 16 World Cup soccer showdown at Lusail Stadium.
Switzerland was able to finish in second place in Group G picking up six points. In the first game of the World Cup, Switzerland was able to beat Cameroon 1-0. In game two, they were defeated by Brazil, but the defense gave up only one goal. In Game 3 with all the pressure on them, they were able to score three goals against Serbia, and secure the victory. Remo Freuler scored in the 48th minute to secure the victory. They had only 46 percent of the possession, but had seven shots on target. Yann Sommer is dealing with an illness, but the hope is that he will be back to start this game.
On the other side of this matchup is Portugal who finished in 1st place of Group H picking up six points. Portugal has been able to win two of the three games in the World Cup so far this season. In the last game against South Korea, the defense gave up two goals and that led to the defeat. There were six changes made to the squad for the last game, but they knew they were through, and should revert to the old squad here. Cristiano Ronaldo played on 65 minutes in the last game, but he is still healthy heading into this game. I would expect Portugal to be the team that pushes the pace and pushes number forward. They are confident that the offense can get it done for them.
There is going to be no shortage of scoring in this game. Portugal is an elite offensive team, but their defense is an issue, and it’s going to struggle again here. Look for both teams to score a couple of goals here and that will be the difference here. Back the over to cash. This is one of the strongest plays for the entire World Cup.
