Argentina is hosting Venezuela at Alberto Jose Armando in round 17 of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifications. Argentina is in second place of these qualifications, they have secured the World Cup, but it would be nice to stay undefeated. Venezuela hasn’t moved from the bottom spot, they are not scoring a lot, and they will not be seeing the World Cup this time.
In 15 qualifications games, Argentina has 10 wins and 5 draws, they are still undefeated, and they will be going to the World Cup. With 23 scored goals, Argentina’s offense has been performing well, but their defense was outstanding with only 7 conceded goals in 15 games. Martinez is the leading goalscorer for Argentina with 7 goals, while Messi has added 6 goals. Lo Celso has added 5 assists. Argentina has all of its players available for this game, including Messi, but I don’t think he will be playing. Overall, a very successful World Cup qualification for Argentina, they are playing well on both ends, and I think they will have a good World Cup later this year.
Venezuela hasn’t shown anything in these qualifications, and they absolutely deserve to in the last place. The good news for Venezuela I suppose is they have been scoring somewhat consistently, and they will be facing a very mixed Argentinian team here. Defensively, Venezuela hasn’t done much, and they have conceded 30 goals in 16 games. There are a few bigger names in the Venezuelan team, but simply not enough to compete and be better, even in South America. Rondon is the leading goalscorer for Venezuela with 4 goals, while Machis has added 3 goals. Soteldo has added 3 assists. Venezuela will finish these qualifications against Colombia at home, and that will be it from them. Unfortunately for Venezuela, they will not be seeing the World Cup, but maybe by the time the next cycle comes, they will be a better team.
Argentina has a lot of young players in their roster for this game, while Messi, Martinez, and a few others won’t be in the lineup. Even without some of their best players, Argentina can score here, but their defense might let some of the chances slip through.
