Atalanta is hosting Spezia at Gewiss Stadium in round 13 of the Italian Serie A. Atalanta is now undefeated in their last games, and they also have a solid chance of advancing in the Champions League. Spezia wins a game every now and then, but they are still in real danger of getting relegated at the end of this season.
Atalanta is now in 4th place in the Serie A standings with 22 points, which is not bad considering how slow was their start, but they seem to be waking up, and hopefully, they can become even better. With 22 scored goals, Atalanta is doing well in the attacking end, and their defense seems to be getting better with every game. In their last game against Cagliari on the road, Atalanta has had 63% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 85% of the correct passes. With 2 scored goals in the first half, Atalanta has deservedly won this game 1-2. Zapata has scored 7 goals for Atalanta so far this season, while Pasalic added 4 assists. In the Champions League, Atalanta will play against Young Boys next week, and that is a must-win game for them, but luckily for Atalanta, they are in good form, and I think they will have a good game.
As I’ve mentioned, Spezia can win a game every now and then, and at the moment, they are outside the relegation zone, but only by 2 points. Spezia is in 16th place with 11 points, 13 scored goals, and 26 conceded goals, which makes it one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Spezia was playing against Torino in their last Serie A game, and they were decent. Spezia has had 41% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 3 shots inside the box, and only 69% of the correct passes. This certainly wasn’t a game where Spezia deserved a win, but sometimes worse teams get the best out of a game, and that was the case here. Spezia has scored a goal in the 58th minute, and they have won this game 1-0. Verde is now the leading goalscorer for Spezia with 3 goals. Sena, Aguedelo, Bourabia, and Nikolau are all injured. Spezia saved themselves last season, but I’m not sure they will be that lucky this season, but anything is possible, and Spezia still has time to get a bit better.
Atalanta has always beaten Spezia at home, and I think they will this time as well. Spezia is just too bad defensively for me to have any faith in them to keep the ball out of their net, and I think Atalanta will get a nice home win here.
